Project Type: Asbestos Abatement and Selective Demolition
Project Value: $2,000,000
Scope of Work:
This project provided approximately 290,000 gross square feet of improved and expanded student center, dining, meeting, and retail spaces, including the NCSU Bookstores. The old 1972 structure was completely rebuilt, with only the 800-seat performing arts theatre remaining intact.
EHG carefully removed 30,000 square feet of fireproofing, and demolished the existing structure, linking all the major program areas in the building to make room for a new four-story atrium. EHG provided strong connections routes to the exterior protecting the active campus from abatement and demolition activities. EHG crews were engaged on every face of the existing rectangular form, providing a safe work environment.
EHG was very successful in recycling over 1,000 tons of concrete and approximately 100,000 lbs of ferrous/nonferrous metals. All recyclable materials were remediated and segregated during the demolition phase to maximize the overall sustainability of the project.
With careful planning and the proper use of equipment, EHG was able to complete each phase of the project in accordance with the stringent standards mandated by our client for this facility.
