Project Type: Asbestos Abatement/Demolition
Project Value: $607,900.00
SCOPE OF WORK:
Environmental Holdings Group, LLC (EHG) was contracted by Duke Energy to decommission the Old Bridgewater Hydroelectric Plant (BWH) in Morganton, NC. The plant was built in 1919 and resided along Lake James, which spans McDowell and Burke counties. Due to the age and location of the plant, EHG had to implement environmental controls such as scaffold netting to prevent any debris from falling into the waterway.
This project included, but was not limited to, all lead and asbestos abatement, all waste removal, cleaning, handling, transportation, disposal, asset recovery and recycling, demolition, backfilling and final site cleanup.
EHG developed a waste management plan that reclaimed over 93% of the material for reuse. The project consisted of a complete hand demolition of a 60,000 square foot powerhouse and four commercial outbuildings. EHG served as a construction manager with four major subcontractors to facilitate. EHG also abated over five tons of lead painted brick and recycled approximately 224 tons of concrete, 1,135 tons of clean brick and 602 tons of precious metals.
EHG spent 16 weeks and a total of 4,174 incident-free man-hours during the project.
